Our Continuum of Care
Founded in 1899, Calvary is the first and only U.S. hospital dedicated to the palliative care of adult patients with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. To date, we have provided end-of-life care to more patients than any other single entity in this country.
Our philosophy focuses on treating the person and not just the disease. It means personalized custom care that you cannot get anywhere else. We also focus on caring for patients and their families. We embrace patients from all faith backgrounds.
CalvaryCare® is offered at four inpatient facilities: 200-bed hospital in the Bronx; 25-bed Brooklyn Campus; 18-bed Dawn Greene Hospice at Mary Manning Walsh Home in Manhattan; and a 9-bed unit at Ozanam Hall of Queens Nursing Home in Bayside. Through Calvary@Home, we provide home care and home hospice to many patients throughout the greater New York area.
Calvary is the only hospice care provider in New York City backed by its own hospital. As patients’ medical needs evolve, Calvary is able to easily transfer patients between home hospice care and our acute care inpatient facilities.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
- To date, our Palliative Care Institute has educated thousands of medical students, physicians, nurses, FDNY EMTs, and other healthcare professionals from the U.S. and many countries.
- Calvary’s free bereavement support program features more than 24 groups for children, tweens, teens, and adults. A connection to Calvary is not necessary to participate in any of these groups.
- Calvary’s K-9 team includes a Facility Dog, Banjo, and two pet therapy dogs, Harley and Chloe, who provide comfort to patients, families, and staff.
- Our Family Care Center at the Bronx campus provides many complimentary services to family members such as manicures, informational talks, Internet access, coffee, counseling, and much more.
