Calvary Hospital Announces Appointment of Michael J. Fosina as its President
The Calvary Hospital Board of Directors has announced that Michael J. Fosina, MPH, FACHE, has been appointed as its President, succeeding CEO Jeff Menkes. Michael had overseen the Hospital’s day-to-day operations as its COO since March 2024.
A highly experienced New York health leader, Michael steered the organization through a transformative year as Calvary integrated services with its parent organization, ArchCare, the healthcare ministry of the Archdiocese of New York.
“Being named the president of this historic institution is the honor of a lifetime and I am excited to continue building upon the critically important work we do serving our community,” Michael said. “It is particularly meaningful to step into this role during Calvary’s 125th anniversary as we reflect on what has been done and what we aim to accomplish in the future.”
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Michael brings a wealth of expertise in healthcare leadership and a proven track record of driving organizational growth, operational excellence and financial turnarounds. His appointment comes at a time when Calvary is committed to building on its history – a legacy first pioneered by the visionary Women of Calvary – while advancing a model of care that reflects the changing needs of today’s healthcare landscape.
“Calvary is a beacon for compassionate care in New York State and we are excited to have Michael step into this leadership role to help usher in the organization’s next 125 years of service. The needs of our patients and our community continue to evolve, and Michael is well positioned to ensure Calvary is ready to meet the challenge,” said ArchCare President and CEO Scott LaRue. “I want to thank Jeff Menkes for his diligent work and commitment to Calvary. He was instrumental in bridging the hospital’s work with the ArchCare system and will continue to work with us at Board level.”
In his previous roles, Michael has demonstrated a commitment to innovation, quality improvement, and community health. As President of NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, he successfully navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading his organization through the unprecedented public health crisis. As a recipient of the American College of Healthcare Executives’ Gold Medal (its highest honor), Michael’s leadership is recognized nationally and internationally. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), its past Chairman, and a Fellow in the New York Academy of Medicine. Michael also served as a Congressional Fellow and Health and Aging Policy Fellow during the Obama administration, where he worked with CMS on supporting aging populations and healthcare accessibility. He has been named several times as one of Westchester’s Power 100 by City & State New York.
His extensive experience in healthcare management includes senior executive roles at NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) which included Lawrence Homecare, Jansen Hospice, The Bereavement Center of Westchester, NYP/Lower Manhattan Hospital, NYP/Allen Hospital and the Director of Integration during the merger of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
In partnership with ArchCare, Calvary will continue delivering high-quality acute hospital care, palliative care, hospice services, and community-based care, ensuring that every patient and family receives the dignity and respect they deserve during life’s most challenging moments.
