CalvaryCare® is available to Manhattan residents in private homes and through The Dawn Greene Hospice, an 18-bed unit located on the 15th floor of Mary Manning Walsh Home on the Upper East Side.
Our patients in Manhattan receive the same hallmark care that patients receive at our main facility in the Bronx. The Dawn Greene Hospice provides short-term inpatient care under the oversight of the Calvary Hospice. Care in this 18-bed unit is intended for patients whose symptoms and care needs cannot be met at home.

The Dawn Greene Hospice was made possible by a gift of $4 million from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation to ArchCare for the benefit of Calvary Hospital. Mrs. Greene, the Foundation’s leader until her death in 2010, was a generous benefactor to Calvary Hospital. Her advocacy of Calvary’s mission helped strengthen care across our continuum, including inpatient, home hospice, and home health care.

I could not have asked for, nor could I have given, better care to my mom.
Once my wife, Maureen, was at Calvary, her suffering eased. She was sitting up, talking, and even eating ice cream. For those few precious days, you gave her back her dignity — and you gave me back my wife.
There was only one place that could match my sister’s love for life during her final days: Calvary Hospital.
My sister Eileen possessed an incredible love and enthusiasm for life. With her keen sense of style, she loved fashion, shopping, traveling to Europe, and finding new and exciting restaurants. So when we realized that there was no cure for her terminal cancer, there was no better place that she spend her final days than where her quality of life would never be compromised: Calvary Hospital. The staff at Calvary – in fact, every employee who we were in contact with – relieved the pain, as well as the incredible stress that we were experiencing. Eileen was treated with the integrity, dignity, and grace that she deserved…even to her very last day. Her hair was kept properly coiffed, her nails done just right, and her nurse even applied her signature make up. Eileen said the pampering made her feel loved. The staff was extraordinary in their care, as if God had hand-picked them to work there. Eileen always believed that you should never give up on life as long as you have a breath in you. Well, Calvary Hospital celebrated her life until the very end in a way that only Calvary can. Thank you, Calvary. And God bless you.
During his last days, only Calvary Hospital was able to relieve our son Greg’s cancer pain with peace and dignity.
No parent should ever have to bury their child. But on October 14, 2014, our son Greg, only 35, lost his battle with cancer. Courageous throughout his entire life, with a love for adventure and travel, it was heartbreaking to see him suffer. But thanks to you and your expert staff, you relieved Greg’s physical pain, and the emotional pain of our entire family, as well. For Greg’s final week, our family alternated our overnight stays, so we would always be with him. In fact, his hospital room became a sacred place for us, filled with peace and serenity. Your combination of professional expertise and compassion was remarkable. We have never seen such genuine care and concern. Believe us, we know. I’m a physical therapist, and my wife is a registered nurse. Greg lived out his final days with dignity and peace, in a place like no other. –Thank you Calvary Hospital.
My wife Doris loved life more than anyone. When her lung cancer began to spread, we prayed that the end would be pain-free. Our prayers were answered by the skills and compassion of the doctors and nurses at Calvary Hospital. Until the very end, we held hands, we laughed, we cried. Nothing is more miraculous than Calvary.
My husband Jimmy suffered terribly with the pain of advanced cancer. The HMOs denied us financial coverage for Calvary. They left us with Jimmy to die an agonizing death. But Calvary wouldn’t abandon us. You said, ‘If we can’t care for Jimmy, let us close our doors rather than close our hearts.
When my sister Lois was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I knew, being a nurse myself, that Calvary offered the best in end-of-life care. Everything I heard about Calvary Hospital and their nurses was true. I’d never seen medical care like it.
We knew that dad, who was dying of brain cancer, would probably not make it to our wedding. Luckily, Calvary offered us their chapel for the ceremony. There was dad, sitting front and center at the wedding with his bright rosy cheeks… Dad passed away just a few weeks later, but not before you gave him back his love for life… and a front row seat at his daughter’s wedding.
My Mother received Calvary at Home Hospice Care, and she was given excellent care by the nurses and home health aides… The nurses that come to check on my mother were very professional, friendly and compassionate, and did everything to make her comfortable… With the help of Calvary we were able to honor my Mother’s wishes to be at home, and to die with dignity surrounded by her family.
