Dr. Irina Makarevich

Dr. Irina Makarevich

Dr. Irina Makarevich starting working at our Brooklyn Campus not long after it opened. In 2009, she was promoted to Medical Director. New York City’s 600,000 strong Russian community is the largest in the U.S. Dr. Makarevich’s fluency in Russian is especially important for helping this thriving community with the end of life.

Patricia M. Caffrey, RN, MS

Patricia M. Caffrey, RN, MS was the Nurse Administrator for 15 years before stepping down in August 2021. She has been an integral to the outstanding care that staff has delivered to date.

Elena Filatov, RN, MSN

Elena Filatov, RN, MS

Elena Filatov, RN, MS is the new Nurse Administrator. Elena has spent her entire 20-year Calvary career at the Brooklyn Campus. Her fluency in Russian has been very helpful for these patients at the end of life.

Nadia Layne

Nadia Layne started working as a Calvary Care Technician in 2018. She is known for her excellent care of patients and families.

Karen Wilkow, LCSW

Karen Wilkow, LCSW has personal and professional connections to Calvary. Two relatives received CalvaryCare®. A social worker for more than two decades, Karen has been the staff social worker in Brooklyn since 2011.

Henry Vaval is one of our Calvary Care Technicians. A beloved member or our Brooklyn team, Henry has worked at Calvary since January 2008.

Samantha Iannuzzi leads five support groups: those who have experienced the death of a partner/spouse due to COVID-19, a mindfulness and movement through grief group, a men’s discussion group, a support group for guardians raising a grieving child and a tween group for children ages 10-12.

Rashida Sanchez

Rashida Sanchez leads three support groups: for adults who have experienced the death of a partner/spouse, child or parent. Rashida also leads a children’s group for kids 6-9 and a teen group that meets in downtown Brooklyn. Rashida is fluent in English and Haitian Creole.

R. Abby Spilka leads five support groups: Young Adult Bereavement, Death of a Child, Death of a Young Spouse/Partner, Death of a Parent Due to COVID, and the Tween group for bereaved 9-12 year olds, as well as follow-up groups for adult children and spouse/partners.
