Bronx Resident Honored for Her Professional Excellence

Calvary Hospital recently honored Bronx resident, Erica Swinnie, CCT with the “Catch A Star” Award for 1st half 2018. Honorees are expected to go above and beyond to make a difference, and exemplify a “healing touch” presence with patients and family members. The Hospital encourages patients, family members, visitors and employees to nominate members of the nursing staff (nurses, Calvary Care technicians and administrative staff) who demonstrate and exemplify Calvary Hospital’s Core Values of Caring, Compassion, Commitment, Non-Abandonment, and Dignity through their work. Honorees are also expected to go above and beyond to make a difference, and exemplify a “healing touch” presence with patients and family members. Award recipients are chosen by their nurse administrators and nursing committee based on the nominations and performance.

Erica joined Calvary in April of 2002 as a Telephone Operator. A year later, she transferred to the Nursing Department, trained as a CCT (Calvary Care Technician) and has worked in the department since then.

Erica’s nominations from colleagues and family members included comments such as:

  • Erica is proactive in the care of both patients and families.
  • Mrs. Swinnie is always ready to help a staff member. Erica is a team player and makes
the shift feel like it’s going smooth. She is dependable and reliable, a great person to
    have by your side.
  • Mrs. Swinnie will make an excellent nurse, because she has one of the most important
skills and that is the desire and compassion to be the best nurse she can be.

On July 30, Erica received the 2018 Dennis Berberich Scholarship for Calvary Care Technicians. Dennis Berberich, a long-time member of the Calvary Hospital Board and the Chairman of the Calvary Fund Board created the Dennis Berberich Scholarship Fund, which allows one Calvary Care Technician to further their career in nursing.

Erica is currently enrolled at Lehman College where she is working towards her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. During her spare time, Erica enjoys spending time with her friends and family, reading and dining out. She resides in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx with her family.
