Social Workers at Calvary Hospital help patients and their families in coping with the stresses that accompany illness and hospitalization. Because end stages illnesses often lead to problems that are difficult to handle, a Social Work/Family Care Practitioner is assigned to each patient and their family on the day of admission.
The assigned worker is available to the patient and family throughout the period of hospitalization and into the bereavement period, if appropriate. Social Work/Family Care Practitioners are on staff seven days a week and available on call 24 hours a day to assist patients and families.
Social Workers meet with patients and their families to identify specific concerns as well as to support and develop ways to cope with the present situation. As part of the healthcare team, they work closely with doctors, nurses and other staff to develop a treatment plan for each patient.

Relatives and friends of Calvary Hospital patients are invited to attend these weekly groups. Professionally led by a Social Work/Family Care Practitioner, the groups are designed as a special opportunity to talk about your own experience as a family member or friend of a patient. Meeting times are listed in the “Support Group Times” box.
